TRAVERSE
Traverse refers to the fluid nature of my practice, of one work informing the next, of journeys taken, of feelings of renewal and excitement in a new landscape, and the exploration of emotional space via the vehicle of landscape.
Each work is a journey in itself, a moving through the landscape, a psychological terrain to traverse. Like walking up a hill with the landscape slowly revealing itself, the painting reveals itself to me during the process.
My work is influenced by my experience of being in the environment, talking a walk, camping or driving. Often the response is many layered and built up over time. Like most travels, we often have a completely different experience to the one we set out on. We leave something behind, we hold in the heart the sum of our experience, and this filters into the work.
